YAY for running! I’m a distance runner, and as a runner,I have horrible knees from years of cement and such, and I had someone once ask if I couldn’t take up swimming or something, and someone else (who doesn’t know me well at all!) spoke up and answered for me, which was th e very answer I would have given. “[I] like to run”.
Running is the best sport (next to say, wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts!), because you don’t need a coach, and you don’t need a lot of gear, and you can do it anytime, anyplace. You just grab a t-shirt and some shorts and GO.
The second best thing is that there is a virtual rainbow of different outfits to wear. I prefer standard “gear”, where I dress the same all the time, but some people like board shorts, others tights, some terry-cloth booty shorts, etc. Same as some people like t-shirts, others (well, for you girls!) halter tops, tank tops (again for you girls) just a sports bra, etc.
Running has no seasons, you can do it year ’round (some LIKE winter runs outdoors, because the air is nice and fresh and it’s cool and the scenery is great), but you can go and get on a treadmill, too.
For me, running, rather than weightlifting, is the best way I have to work out problems. Weight lifting is great, but you have to concentrate on the weight you are lifting, and I find that it impedes the process of getting through what is on your mind. Running, all you need is a wide open trail. I’m a big fan of bike trails. The road is there, lots of trees, it’s quiet (you and your thoughts, unless you’re the kind that talks out loud when you run), and it’s usually much less harsh on your body due to the frequent asphalt nature of the ground, so more spring and less shock when you run.
I know I’m far away, but if you ever want running advice/coach/someone to kick you in the fanny while handing you your tights and shoes and tell you to get out and run, hit me up. Running is an art form, and it IS possible to do it wrong.

Hi, and congratulations on you impressive goal. I really like this idea of one or more goals for October. Getting back into everyday routines with the kids after summer, and feeling ready to think of me. My goal would have to be something relating to my writing (or non-writing LOL) and also some sewing of clother for myself. Will start thinking and preparing for October. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Steph
Irene! I love your writing and sewing goal
For September we are all doing one baby step daily to get ready for October. For instance, I want to run 7.5 miles in October and so I am running 1 mile every day in September. You could write 5 sentences every day in September. I talk about taking baby steps in this video: Pick a Baby Step and DO IT!
Excited to do this with you! xo
